My path as an artist was decided the moment I uncovered the intense, agonizing story of Vincent van Gogh.
The name “Mimi” (which means “ear” in Japanese) in Mimi Takamizawa was chosen as a direct tribute to Van Gogh’s legendary ear-cutting incident.

I like to think of an artist’s true vocation as a doctor whose mission is to rescue the soul.

An artist surrenders the entirety of their existence to the precious soul right in front of them.

I hold an immense, boundless respect for Tokuji Munegetsu, the visionary founder of Curry House CoCo Ichibanya.
He lived his life without ever looking sideways, dedicating 100% of his energy to his singular mission.
Having spent a turbulent youth never knowing the faces of his biological parents, growing up in an orphanage, and experiencing such extreme poverty due to his foster father’s gambling addiction that he had to eat wild weeds in the summer to survive, Mr. Munegetsu found his salvation in classical music.
Yet, during his years as the active leader of CoCo Ichibanya, he completely stopped listening to his beloved classical music.
He made a firm pact with himself: “This is no time to be listening to music; this is no time to be indulging in hobbies. I must surrender every second of my time entirely to my customers.”
During the early days of their original coffee shop, when customers simply refused to walk through the door, he and his wife survived by eating the discarded crusts of sandwich bread for lunch.
Because they started from absolute zero, he viewed such hardships as completely natural—recalling them later not with bitterness, but as beautiful, cherished memories.
